Education & Training For Medical Assistant Jobs

Certification – Is It Necessary?
Getting certified is not a requirement for medical assistant jobs, either by law or employers, although some employers may require you to be certified. There are two forms of certification, Certified Medical Assistant, which is awarded by the American Association of Medical Assistants and Registered Medical Assistant which is awarded by the American Registry of Medical Assistants.
CMA Certification
- Can be done directly after graduation.
- Certification is done via an exam.

RMA Certification
- No further examination is required for registration.

Both RMA and CMA are nationally recognized certifications, and although registration and certification is not required, there are definite advantages of getting certified as a medical assistant.
